    U14's – Phoenix-Bitton v Easton - Home

Players: Sophie S, Sophie W, Kisha, Alex M, Jenny, Chanel, Megan, Saffie, Ella.

The kick off was at 12.30 today. The girls were in good spirits and it was a lovely sunny day.

Our girls started well, and within minutes, Sophie S scored! The girls’ heads were up and there was no turning back! Saffie scored as did Kisha, and Sophie W scored a further 3 goals! Passing was impressive as was the defending.

Some good football was played today!

    Well done girls!

PLAYER OF THE MATCH: SOPHIE SWEET, who scored a hat-trick!!

    FINAL SCORE 5-0 to Phoenix-Bitton.

    Kerry.

    U14's – Phoenix-Bitton V Cadbury Heath -Away

Players: Sophie S, Sophie W, Kisha, Alex M, Jenny, Chanel, Megan, Saffie, Ella.

The kick off was at 10.30am today. The girls were certainly much perkier today than they were yesterday!

Our girls started well, and within 5 minutes Saffie scored the first goal of the match. As usual, their heads were immediately up! After 15 minutes, Sophie W scored another amazing goal. The pace was much slower than yesterday’s but the girls appeared to be more controlled. Just before the end of the first half, Kisha scored a goal. Our defence was strong and Jenny came out and did a few impressive clearances.

    HALF-TIME SCORE 3-0

The second half was much the same as the first. An unfortunate own goal for Cadbury Heath brought us 4-0 up. Poor Alex was hit in the face by the ball and a nosebleed meant that she could not continue to play. Further goals were score by Sophie S and Sophie W.

The girls played much better today! Well done girls!

    FINAL SCORE 6-0 to Phoenix-Bitton.

    Kerry.

    U14's – Phoenix-Bitton V Frys - Away

Players: Sophie S, Sophie W, Kisha, Alex M, Jenny, Chanel, Megan, Saffie, Ella.

The kick off was at 3.00pm today, which unfortunately coincided with Bristol City’s last home match of season. Ella and I were bitterly disappointed at missing City but quite rightly chose to play today’s match. (Ella and I were gutted that we were going to miss seeing Lee Peacock).

We started well, but as soon as Frys scored their first goal, our heads went down. One goal scored by us was disallowed. This was bitterly disappointing as was the goal scored by Frys which should have been disallowed when it was apparently kicked out of Jenny’s hands! Some of our Mums were not impressed by the referee!! Several substitutions and positional changes by Tony did little to improve our play.

The second half was better. When we scored a goal our heads went up briefly and we played some great football!

We enjoyed the match, but in my opinion we did not play well as a team. We were all fine individually, but lacked lustre and formation, and were inconsistent at times.

Never mind, we’ll play better tomorrow!!

    FINAL SCORE 4-1 to Fry’s

    Chanel

    U14's – Phoenix-Bitton V Broadbury Park - Home

Players: Sophie S, Sophie W, Kisha, Alex M, Jenny, Chanel, Megan, Saffie, Ella.

All the girls played well today, but the match was mediocre.

    FINAL SCORE 2-1 to us.

    Kerry.

    Free Coach Development Workshop

The Bristol Girl's League are teaming up with the FA to invite all BGL club coaches to a FREE coach development workshop. Leading the session will be FA Regional Coach Development Manager Alan Gillett, an FA 'A' License coach with over 30 years experience at both domestic and international levels.
In order for your coaches to get the most out of the session I would be grateful if you could let me know the topics they would most like to cover. The session will be around 3 hours long and practical based to allow participants to get the most out of it.
I am fully aware that the majority of clubs would like a goalkeeping workshop and this is being organised as part of the GFA's Coach Development Day on Sunday June 25th. It will be open to ALL coaches, not just Level 2 and above, and will be led by one of the FA's national goalkeeping coaches.
With this in mind, and as goalkeeping is not one of Alan's areas of expertise, we are welcoming suggestions on any other aspect of the game you would like help with e.g. phases of play, technique/individual skill development, coaching in relation to the game etc
This is a great opportunity for your coaches to get expert hands on advice and support tailor made to their requirements. Please let me know what you would like the session to cover as soon as possible so we can arrange a date.

    U14's Phoenix-Bitton v Wicklea

    9th April 2006

Players: Sophie S, Sophie W, Kisha, Alex M, Jenny, Chanel, Megan, Saffie, Ella.

It was a pleasant afternoon and Phoenix-Bitton girls were lulled into a false sense of security, remembering how they beat Wicklea last time 7-0. We really thought the same was going to happen again.

BUT NO!! Wicklea have new players and a hunger to win that hasn’t been seen before this season!

Within minutes, Sophie Sweet scored a goal and the girls’ heads were up. However, it was a big shock when Wicklea scored!! We soon came back with a splendid goal by Saffie. At the end of the first half, Wicklea scored again and Phoenix-Bitton’s nonchalance faded!

    HALF-TIME SCORE 2-2

The second half was nail biting but it was clear that Phoenix-Bitton were not playing as they usually do. Within the next few minutes, Wicklea scored another two goals. A few tempers flared and it was clear that we were not going to win today’s match. Phoenix had several shots, missing the goal by millimetres.

When Sophie Sweet scored a 3rd goal, we hoped our luck would change. But, it wasn’t meant to be. Wicklea scored their 5th goal in the last few minutes.

Phoenix-Bitton’s performance today was mediocre. None of the girls showed their usual skill today. However, they were all smiling in the bar later and are well determined to win their next match!

    FINAL SCORE 3-5 to Wicklea.

Player of the match: Sophie Williams.

    U14's A V Stoke Lane

    2nd April 2006

Today was the semi-final of the Gloucestershire County Cup League.

This was the second time our A and B-sides had amalgamated to form an 11 a-side team.

Players: Sophie S, Sophie W, Kisha, Alex M, Charlie, Jenny, Jackie, Sasha, Chanel, Megan, Claire, Lorna, Saffie, Emma P and Shelley.

It was blowing a gale at Stoke Lane and the wind was certainly blowing the wrong way for Phoenix-Bitton! Within the first minute, Stoke Lane scored a goal, helped considerably by the wind.

Then Stoke Lane scored another; and another, and another!

Our heads went down and Alex (defender) was taken off with a knee injury. Tony hastily put Chanel on in her place and the battle continued.

Phoenix’s spirits were lifted when Kisha scored a splendid goal. However, just before the half-time whistle, Stoke Lane scored their 5th goal!

HALF-TIME SCORE 5.1 TO Stoke Lane.

The second half was more exciting. The wind was blowing in our favour. Phoenix-Bitton gelled and demonstrated some excellent skills. Jackie and Charlie came on replacing Jenny and Sophie W. Kisha scored her second goal quite quickly and in spite of some good shots by Stoke Lane, they did not score for a long time, due to strong defending and goal keeping. Shelley then scored an amazing goal and Phoenix realised they were rapidly catching up with Stoke Lane. When Stoke Lane scored their only goal of the second half, bringing the score to 3-6 Phoenix’s heads went down very briefly. Then Sophie S scored a cracker. When Kisha scored her 3rd goal, Phoenix battled and battled, all playing excellently.

A close but exciting finish. WELL DONE GIRLS!!!

FINAL SCORE 6-5 to Stoke Lane.

    Under 10s (26/03)

An early start this morning boded well for the Under 10s. It took a while for Phoenix to get into their stride (4 minutes to be exact), going one goal up thanks to excellent passing and a well executed goal from Elish Hughes.
This seemed to invigorate the whole team and another goal was secured by Maddie Thomas in the fifth minute. We had to wait ages...another two minutes for the double from Maddie!! Some excellent passing between the team ensured we were 4 nil up by half time thanks to a run on goal, from Grace's great goal kick, by Izzie Smart.

The second half produced some excellent football from a determined squad however, only one more goal five minutes before full-time. A goal-bound corner by Connie Smart was tipped over the line by her twin sister Izzie, thus securing a win for Phoenix.

Grace - not too muddy today Grace. Your goal kicking was superb and you managed to get that ball away up the pitch ready for the attack.

Freya - Some truly excellent tackles today. You put yourself in the way of attacks on goal time and time again. You are stronger and more confident every game.

Connie - Two positions today - defence and midfield. You really wanted to score and nearly did. Solid at the back once again, determined when moved up.

Elish - You started the goals today - a great run was followed by an even greater goal. Even though you dropped back into defence for the second half you made a fantastic contribution to secure the team's win.

Maddie - Fast and furious play today. Two outstanding goals and some accurate passing ensured the right result. Obviously your rest due to injury has had a positive impact on your game.

Nicole - Tackling and winning of the ball time and again. You played with great determination and selflessness and enabled better positioned players to run on goal.

Izzie - Two goals from you today. Many chances although perhaps your enthusiasm prevented more. You positioned yourself well and were able to pass when needed.

An excellent morning's work girls. You played passing football which enabled you to outwit the opposition and produce five well deserved goals.

    Well done all of you

    U14's - Almondsbury v Phoenix A ~ Home

TEAM: SOPHIE WILLIAMS, SOPHIE SWEET, SAFFIE KEETLEY, CHANEL ABRAHAMS (NELLY), ELLA JANE NEALE, MEGAN PRICE (MORRIS), ALEX MORDECAI, KISHA GOULBOURNE.

Luckily for us the rain held off during our match!

Unfortunately, Jenny was unable to play today. Alex Mordecai therefore became our goalie for today’s match! (Thanks, Alex!) Alex did a good job too!

Within the first few minutes, Sophie Sweet had scored a brilliant goal. A few minutes later, Saffie scored another amazing goal.

Almondsbury battled, but Sophie Sweet scored a third goal. Saffie quickly scored another goal before the half-time whistle.

    HALF-TIME SCORE 4.0 to PHOENIX-BITTON.

The second half was exciting, as Tony moved the players around into different positions. Some excellent passing meant that Saffie score her third goal of the match (Hat-trick!) Kisha and Sophie each scored goals in spite of some excellent goal keeping by Almondsbury’s goalkeeper.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH: ALEX MORDECAI

    FINAL SCORE 7.0 TO PHOENIX-BITTON!

    16th WIN OF THE SEASON!

    Glos Cup Semi-Final Draw

    To Be Played 02/04/06

    PHEONIX BITTON v STOKE LANE

    DOWNEND FLYERS v GLOUCESTER CITY

Phoenix Bitton U14's v Southside Ladies

Today was the first match of the Gloucestershire County Cup League 11 -A- Side as our first fixture had been a BYE.

This was the first time our A and B sides had amalgamated to form an 11 a-side team. Saffie was injured and Lottie and Ella were off on a school skiing trip, so we had 14 girls altogether.

Players: Sophie S, Sophie W, Kisha, Alex M, Charlie, Jenny, Jackie, Sasha, Chanel, Megan, Claire, Lorna, Emma P and Shelley.

Within minutes, Kisha had hit the post, Phoenix-Bitton girls' heads were up and it was clear that they were "on a mission". Sophie S scored a goal very early on, closely followed by an amazing goal by Megan. Some good defending meant that Southside were unable to score a goal at all. In the final minutes of the first half, Kisha scored a goal.

HALF-TIME SCORE 3.0 TO PHOENIX BITTON.

The second half was more exciting. The three subs were brought on replacing Alex, Megan and Jenny. The opponents were on the attack and in spite of some good defending and goal keeping, Southside managed to score two goals. Phoenix-Bitton scored an amazing 6 goals this half and demonstrated their skills to the max!

A strict referee meant that his whistle was nearly worn out due to some of our girls not yet understanding the Offside rule!!!!

    FINAL SCORE 9-2 TO Phoenix-Bitton U14's.

    GOALS: Sophie S (4), Jackie (1), Megan (1), Kisha (2), Sasha (1).

Longwell Green v Phoenix Bitton U10's

The sun shone on Phoenix Bitton under 10s this morning, although the score after 2 minutes was a little disappointing!  Longwell Green attacked from the first whistle and we went one nil down very quickly.  Phoenix battled back and a superb chip resulted in a level score.  I sometimes wondered if I was watching a table tennis match as the score see-sawed 2-1 down, 2 all then at the final whistle we were victorious as 3 - 2 winners of a very closely fought match.  Even though we were playing with only 6 players, every young lady on that pitch today gave 100% and really stepped up their games.  So here goes for the individual stats:

Grace - brave keeping today and some great reading of the game.  You used your defenders well and were able to make some good decisions.  The two that went past you were lucky goals (even Petr Cech wouldn't have saved those!).

Freya - great tackling today young lady.  You really got stuck in and made a difference in defence.  You got in the way of the Longwell Green strikers on many occasions and made it very difficult for them to get on target.

Connie - Once again, superb defending from the mouthy one at the back (as opposed to the mouthy one at the front!).  You 'hoofed' the ball up the pitch time and time again and more or less set up one of the goals.  Great determination today.

Elish - Welcome back, no theme parks for you today just great running and tackling.  How much money do you need to be promised to get that ball in the back of the net? So many near misses, the back of the net eluded you today but hopefully you'll find it next week.  Great runs and passing throughout the game, well done.

Nicole - You seem to have found your on switch today, playing a brilliant midfield role winning the ball well and laying it off just in the nick of time.  It was a shame you didn't score today to top off that brilliant performance.  keep it up Gerrard.

Izzie - A hat-trick for you today - thank goodness Jackie is now paying your 'win bonus'!  To recap - a chip, a side-(left)footed effort and a nutmeg of the goalie resulted in the three goals for the team today.  You had great support up front and this enabled you to make your runs on goal.

What a result with only 6 girls - they really showed what they were made of this morning (and it ain't sugar and spice)!  We really deserved to win the match even though it seemed an evenly fought forty minutes of football.  Great result ladies - keep up the fantastic attitude and we can do this every week.

    Almonsbury v Phoenix Bitton U12's B

First half was a bit slapdash and Phoenix struggled to pull their game together.

Although by the end of the first half they were leading 2-0 of which one was a penalty.

    HT: 0-2

The second half saw Phoenix actually start to put some good football into practice and gain another goal.

Although Almondsbury were one player short, they were no walk over and Phoenix had to battle hard.

The last 15 minutes saw Almonsbury start to tire and Phoenix gain their usual passing skills.

Four goals to finish with a win of 0-7.

A determined team performance against worthy opponants

    FT: 0-7
